If we had to step into your (she wear) shoes (pun intended), what could we expect a day in your life to feel like? :
When I step into my she wear boots for the day, I do all kinds of residential building work like; framing, bathroom renovations, window installations, minor to major demolition and renovations, fit off and fit out, installing doors and leading groups.
What do you enjoy about your role? What is the favourite part of your job? :
My favourite part about my role as a chippy is teaching and learning new things each day.
How did you get into your role? What did you study or how did you learn your skills? :
I moved to Queensland for a fresh start from Tasmania. I was originally a bricklayer, then after 4 years later decided to make a change. I am currently completing my Certificate III in Carpentry.
Have you won any awards, earned any special recognition or been involved in something “out of the box”? :
I won the award for Apprentice of The Year from HIA for the Northern Rivers and Gold Coast Region.
What advice would you give to other women? :
There are no silly questions and you never truly stop learning, it’s okay to ask for help and lean on people in the industry!
Do you have a favourite saying or quote, or mantra that you live by? :
“It’s not effed until you can’t fix it”
Tell us a funny story about your role or an amusing experience you’ve had :
I'd never used a circular saw until I moved to Queensland. I got it jammed halfway through cutting an old door, absolutely crashed out, and ended up putting my boot through it instead. The boys thought it was absolutely hilarious, and we still laugh about it today.
Have you ever encountered any negative experiences that, although difficult at the time, may have helped shape who you are today? :
People telling me I’ll never make it. I’ve made it very far, and some!
How do you feel about your she wear boots? Any comments you’d like to make.
I feel unstoppable, I suffer from psoriatic arthritis and the bio mechanical insole helps so much by giving me the correct and most comfortable support!
